Skin Cancer

overview
|
Dr. Yu-Ying He leads a research program focused on understanding how normal cells respond to environmental carcinogens and transform into cancerous cells. Her laboratory investigates the roles of epitranscriptomics, epigenetics, and autophagy in maintaining genomic integrity and cellular homeostasis, and how disruptions in these processes contribute to cancer development and therapeutic resistance.
With a particular emphasis on skin cancers—especially squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma—Dr. He’s research aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms that drive tumor initiation, progression, and resistance to treatment. Her long-term goal is to identify previously unrecognized, therapeutically accessible regulatory networks that influence susceptibility to skin cancer. Through this work, Dr. He seeks to advance the prevention and treatment of skin malignancies by providing novel molecular targets and predictive markers for clinical intervention.
