overview Sanmit K. Basu, MD, MS is a pediatric cardiologist and Director of Pediatric Cardiac CT-MR Imaging at the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital and an Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago School of Medicine. He is a graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN and completed a categorical pediatrics internship and residency and non-operative pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine fellowship at Children’s Memorial Hospital (now Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital) in Chicago, IL. Dr. Basu continued his training with completion of a pediatric cardiology fellowship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO, followed by an additional year in advanced cardiac imaging at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH. He joined the faculty of The Heart Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in July 2014 and continued in that capacity until July 2018. Dr. Basu’s clinical and research interests include cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography, echocardiography, and multi-modality imaging of congenital, adult congenital, and acquired pediatric heart disease. He has a background in cardiovascular biomechanics and its application to specific cardiovascular conditions. Dr. Basu has a long-standing interest in health care advocacy and has been involved in organized medicine at the local, state, and national levels, including the American College of Cardiology. He is board certified in pediatric cardiology and general pediatrics.
