Dr. Daniel Fridberg is an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Chicago. Dr. Fridberg’s program of research focuses on individual differences in alcohol response phenotypes, alcohol biosensors, novel treatment approaches and reactivity to tobacco cues in people who smoke, and neurocognition in substance use disorders. He is especially interested in how basic science research on addiction can inform new treatment approaches for people suffering from those disorders. Dr. Fridberg’s work examining longitudinal predictors of alcohol use disorder (AUD) risk and developing and deploying smartphone-based assessment methods to measure alcohol use and responses in people from across the alcohol-use spectrum has been supported by multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health. In addition to his research program, Dr. Fridberg is a licensed clinical psychologist and provides assessment and treatment services to people with substance use disorders. He is co-director of the University’s Tobacco Cessation Program, which implements the Courage to Quit® smoking cessation program for patients at the University of Chicago Medicine. He also co-directs the Transplant Psychiatry program at the University of Chicago.
