overview MELISSA GILLIAM, MD, MPH is the Ellen H. Block Professor of Health Justice and Vice Provost at the University of Chicago. Her clinical focus is in pediatric and adolescent gynecology and family planning. Dr. Gilliam is the founder and director of Ci3, a research center at the University of Chicago. As Vice Provost, she leads campus-wide efforts on leadership, faculty development, faculty recruitment, and diversity and inclusion. She oversees the Center for the Study of Race Politics and Culture, the Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality, and the Center for Identity and inclusion. She is founder of the D+I studio, using design practices to create a more inclusive campus. In November 2012, she launched Ci3 at the University of Chicago conducting research to improve the health, education, and wellbeing of adolescents in particular those marginalized by class, race, and sexual orientation. Ci3 uses participatory research methods including games, storytelling, and design.
