overview I am an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Chicago Medicine. My clinical practice sites include Advocate Children's Hospitals as well as North Shore University Healthsystem, Evanston Hospital. The scope of my practice in pediatric general surgery includes neonatal congenital anomalies, pediatric trauma care, surgery for children with cancer including vascular access procedures, gastrointestinal disorders and feeding access, repair of hernias, hydrocoeles, circumcisions, treatment of appendicitis, intussusception, tumors and cysts of the ovary, pyloric stenosis and other common pediatric surgical conditions. I use minimally invasive approaches such as laparoscopy and thoracoscopy whenever indicated. I have an interest in treating children with bowel motility disorders such as Hirschsprung's Disease and rare bowel myopathies. In addition to my clinical interests, I have been engaged in surgical education as well as the field of clinical surgical ethics and currently serve as the Chair of the Ethics Committee for the American Pediatric Surgical Association. My approach to the care of children is to engage the patient and family or care-givers fully in all aspects of the child's surgical care and options for treatment. I work collaboratively with other pediatric specialists and feel that excellent and timely communication between all members of the care team is key for patient satisfaction and optimal outcomes.
