overview Neil Sengupta, MD, is a general gastroenterologist and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago. He sees patients with a wide range of digestive symptoms and diseases, including gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, and diverticular diseases. Dr. Sengupta is a national expert in the management of gastrointestinal bleeding. He is the primary author for national clinical guidelines on the management of lower gastrointestinal bleeding, and has specific interests in the management of gastrointestinal bleeding while on antithrombotic medications and optimal diagnostic testing for hospitalized patients with gastrointestinal bleeding. In addition, he serves as the GI section quality improvement director, and has active projects focused on improving the quality of colorectal cancer screening. Dr. Sengupta also is a dedicated educator, teaching medical students, residents and fellows about gastrointestinal pathophysiology, performance of endoscopy, and clinical gastroenterology.
