Dr. Jill Weissberg-Benchell is a Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neuroscience at The University of Chicago, where she joined the faculty in July 2026. For over three decades prior she held faculty appointments at George Washington University School of Medicine and at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where she rose to Full Professor and served as an attending pediatric psychologist and Psychology Director of Integrated Care at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.
Her scholarly work sits at the intersection of clinical child psychology and diabetes care. She has dedicated her career to understanding and improving the psychosocial lives of children, adolescents, young adults, and families living with type 1 diabetes — with particular emphasis on diabetes distress, resilience, advanced diabetes technology, and the critical passage from pediatric to adult care. She is recognized nationally and internationally as a leading voice on the emotional and behavioral dimensions of diabetes management.
Dr. Weissberg-Benchell brings to the University of Chicago an active research portfolio funded by the NIH, the American Diabetes Association, Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), and the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust. She is a founding contributor to consensus guidelines on automated insulin delivery psychosocial measures, ISPAD clinical practice guidelines, and ADA position statements. She is the first psychologist to chair a national ADA scientific committee and was the first psychologist appointed to the JDRF Research Strategy Committee.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
