Overview Neda Laiteerapong, MD, MS is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of Clinical Outcomes in the Center for Translational and Policy Research of Chronic Diseases at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Laiteerapong graduated from medical school at Boston University in 2005, completed her residency in 2008 at the University of Chicago, and served as the Chief Resident at MacNeal Hospital until 2009 when she returned to the University of Chicago to complete her fellowship in health services research.
Dr. Laiteerapong is an internist at the University of Chicago who is committed to improving the care of adults with multiple chronic diseases, especially those with diabetes. Her work focuses on the individualized tailoring of care for adults suffering from diabetes. Her research has explored how the quality of life in older adults with diabetes is affected by geriatric syndromes, hypoglycemia, and macrovascular and microvascular complications of diabetes. To examine this area, Dr. Laiteerapong uses data gathered from patient surveys and secondary data sources including pharmacy and health claims by Kaiser Permanente Northern California managed care. She has also used diabetes microsimulation models to evaluate the effects of delays in achieving blood pressure control in adults with diabetes. Additionally, she has co-authored articles about the public health implications of bariatric surgery for diabetes treatment and the effects of health care reform on the delivery of chronic disease care.
