Dr. Kane is a Clinical Associate in Pediatrics at the University of Chicago and an Attending Physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Comer Children's Hospital. He completed his Medical Doctorate at Rush University in Chicago before matriculating to Indiana University and Riley Hospital for Children where he completed his pediatric residency. Dr. Kane then attended the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin to pursue his Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. In addition, Dr. Kane completed a Master of Science degree in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety from Northwestern University. In his early career as an Attending Physician, Dr. Kane worked exclusively as a Cardiac Intensivist at Children’s Memorial Hospital (now Lurie Children’s Hospital). Additionally, Dr. Kane currently works at Endeavor Health, a Chicagoland Children's Health Alliance partner, in both pediatric hospital and acute care medicine.

His scholarship falls in two broad categories: pediatric safety and quality in the PICU, and health systems research focusing on the clinical outcomes of hospitalized children and associated resource utilization. Dr. Kane has gained national recognition as a healthcare delivery and health systems scientist with numerous publications evaluating resource use and administrative data to inform clinical care and outcomes. He serves on the editorial boards of the American Academy of Pediatrics' journal Pediatrics, and the PREP SA and PREP ICU products. His academic scholarship has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications, local clinical process improvement activities, and optimization of clinical outcomes for pediatric patients in the PICU. Dr. Kane serves on a number of national and international committees focused on healthcare quality and is a recognized leader in the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) and a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM).
